SHELBY COUNTY, AL (WBRC) -

The Shelby County Sheriff is asking the county commission for more money.

Sheriff Chris Curry spoke during Monday's commission meeting. He says more money is needed for deputies at all county schools for security reasons. He also wants to add 35 new vehicles and 51 more deputies.

"What we're doing is not for the sheriff's office. If I have 120 deputies or 160 deputies, that doesn't make Chris Curry any more powerful. It doesn't do a thing for me. It does a lot for the citizens. My job is to protect them," he said.

Curry also wants to add eight more officers to the county jail.
