JASPER, AL (WBRC) -

Jasper police have released the name of the little girl seriously injured in a dog attack on Friday.

Police Chief Connie Rowe says the victim, Janiah Hood, is five years old. As of 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, she was listed in "good condition" at Children's of Alabama Hospital in Birmingham.

Chief Rowe added that the owner of the dog involved in the attack has agreed to have the dog euthanized.

Rowe says the Alabama Department of Health will examine the dog's remains "as part of standard procedure in these types of cases."

Neighbors say they found Hood "balled up and bleeding" in a ditch after hearing the child's screams on Friday night. One neighbor was able to stop the dog attack by firing a gun into the air, which finally scared it off.

Hood was airlifted from Jasper to Children's of Alabama where she is being treated for significant head injuries.
