VESTAVIA HILLS, AL (WBRC) -

Homeowners on a street in Vestavia Hills seem to be a favorite of thieves. One home has been hit by burglars twice within the past five months.

The crooks stole TVs and other expensive items at two other homes just last week. One woman, a single mom who has an alarm system on her home, said the thieves have figured out ways to evade alarms during the daytime.

All of these burglaries are taking place on Old Creek Trail, just off Highway 31. It appears to be a very nice, quiet neighborhood, and very bold thieves are hitting the few homes on the street.

One woman said that she's had her television stolen twice. And even though she has a security system, she says these guys don't care.

She and others have contacted police who say they are adding extra patrols.

"Yes, we've brought some officers in for overtime shifts and added extra patrols in the area, and also networking out to other law enforcement officers in the area and looking for leads and hopefully, we can make some progress on these cases," Lt. Brian Gilham with VPD said.

Lieutenant Gilham recommends residents who have security systems should contact police about what they call "Operation Overwatch." Police and firefighters will come to Vestavia residents' homes to see if the security system is in any way vulnerable, and will offer homeowners other tips to keep folks safe.
