HOUSING MARKET - Are you prepared to enter the fall housing market? A new bipartisan effort, supported by President Obama, aims to reform home mortgage markets, effectively ending Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac as we know them. By reducing the role of government sponsored enterprises (GSE's), the private sector will play a larger role in the mortgage business in the years to come. As the housing market continues to improve, and inventory is decreasing while prices rise, what does all of this mean for the average American home buyer? Mortgage expert Bill White, VP of Real Estate Lending for the NASA Federal Credit Union told us how we can navigate today's housing market. He discussed:
- Update on mortgage financial reform: the latest on the plans for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac
- Securing a mortgage: many banks have strict lending policies, including 20% down; where do buyers turn if they need 95-100% financing?
- Who to trust: Importance of having a personal relationship with a trusted, local lending provider that won't be susceptible to market volatility
- Looking ahead: Experts predict that today's historically-low interest rates will be raised, but when? Is 2013 a better time to buy than 2014?
