Cullman City Schools has announced that all Head Start employees will be furloughed effective Oct.9, pending approval by the Board of Education.
Officials said the salaries of all Head Start employees are funded by the federal government, and because an appropriations bill had not been passed for the new fiscal year before the government shutdown occurred Tuesday, the City Board of Education cannot absorb the costs to run the program.
All Head Start employees will be suspended without pay until the shutdown ends and funds can be returned to the Board.
