The Fox Army Health Center on the Arsenal is still operating despite the shutdown. However, they're doing so with 20 percent fewer employees. Most of those furloughed are in administrative positions, allowing for full-service care for the 40,000 beneficiaries the center serves.
Commander of the center, Colonel William Darby, said there is still plenty of uncertainty.
"We try really hard to keep up the moral of our facility and the people who work here to ensure that beneficiaries and patients that come here get good care," said Col. Darby. "And that is hard to do when folks are operating in a time of uncertainty."
Colonel Darby says the shutdown has actually provided more flexibility than the six furlough days this summer.
