Friends and family of an 83-year-old woman killed in her Wylam home came together on the anniversary of her death to remember and celebrate her life.
On October 6, 2012, police discovered Annie Johnson Sharpe's body in her home. She died from blunt force trauma, and police have not arrested anyone in connection to her murder.
Exactly one year later, the street that runs directly in front of her former home was dedicated in her memory.
Neighbors, friends and family members from five different generations gathered for the dedication service on a rainy Sunday.
They say Sharpe loved life and loved everybody. The marker will remind them of her kind spirit, gentle nature and the legacy she leaves behind.
"Words cannot explain who my grandmother was, what she did in the neighborhood, what she did just for anyone that she knew," her granddaughter Zondral Nunn said.
Family members say they are still confident that the person responsible, will eventually be brought to justice.
