The Gadsden Police Department is investigating after a pawn shop reported at least 40 guns stolen among other items.
According to police, the thieves struck between 2 a.m. and 2:50 a.m. on Monday morning at the Off Campus Pawn & Storage in East Gadsden. It's believed that it took the suspects around an hour to get into the building.
Once inside, the thieves smashed display cases and loaded up the guns which included rifles, shotguns and handguns. Officers believe they left the scene and returned to take television sets out of the back door.
Investigators say they found some property stashed nearby that was part of the burglary, including an Xbox gaming console and a paintball gun.
They also found several bicycles that did not belong to the pawn shop, leading investigators to think they may have approached the building on the bikes. The suspects are believed to have left in an unseen vehicle.
Gadsden police are looking for at least three suspects with one being female. Around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Captain Bobby Jackson said they had three suspects in custody for questioning.
The burglars attempted to disable security cameras and the alarm, but police say they do have footage from the burglary. They are also hoping to get security camera footage from a nearby bank in hopes of spotting the suspects.
The ATF and U.S. Marshals are assisting in the investigation. Anyone with any information should contact Gadsden Police Department.
