TUSCALOOSA COUNTY, AL (WBRC) -
The I-59 NB exit ramp onto Mallisham Parkway near Tuscaloosa has reopened after an 18-wheeler spill shut it down for hours.
An 18-wheeler carrying liquid asphalt overturned on the exit ramp, causing the exit and entrance ramps to be shut down for several hours on Tuesday.
The entrance ramp from Mallisham Parkway onto I-59 NB is currently one lane only. The Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office says they will close the ramp again after 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9 to continue to clean up the spill.
Authorities are asking drivers to be cautious while driving over the sand placed on the ramp to help soak up the spilled liquid asphalt.
The sheriff's office recommended the following alternate routes to and from the interstate at Mallisham Parkway:
From Mallisham Parkway: Use MLK, turn right onto 35th Street to I-359 SB
To Mallisham Parkway from I-59: Use I-359 NB to 35th Street onto MLK to Mallisham Parkway
