A fishing trip in west Alabama could help feed hundreds of hungry children. Secret Meals for Hungry Children is hosting the Secret Meals Bass Classic on Wednesday, Oct. 9.
All of the money raised from the event goes to the charity. It's used to buy food for children who get most of their meals at school and sometimes go hungry at home.
Organizers are providing boats, motors and 10 ponds stocked with bass and catfish. They say some kids in our state go hungry, especially on the weekends.
"When they're in school, they have free and reduced breakfast or lunch five days a week. But 48 hours is a long time to go hungry. And so the need is great," Kelly Porter, a spokesperson with Secret Meals, said.
"Last year, across the state of Alabama, through Secret Meals we served over 1,700 children and right now it looks like we're going to serve that many if not more this school year as well," she added.
