BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

Jefferson County authorities are on the lookout for ATM thieves who broke into a convenience store near Bessemer.

Police believe the suspects may have hit two locations on Thursday morning.

Their first target was a Marathon gas station on Allison Bonnet drive in Hueytown. They were unable to steal the ATM there, so they moved on to their next target, the Town and County Convenience Store on Morgan Road.

Deputies arrived to the scene around 4 a.m. Thursday and found the front door of the business had been torn off and was lying in the parking lot.

The thieves only took the ATM from inside the store. Surveillance video shows three suspects in the parking lot, at least one of them armed with a handgun.

They hooked a cable to the front door to pull it off, then two suspects connected the cable to the ATM.

Using the cable, they pulled the ATM to the front door and loaded it into the back of the pickup truck and sped away. The suspects are still at large.

A man who works at the gas station arrived just moments after the thieves' departure. He says if he had showed up to work two minutes earlier, he could have caught the thieves. He said he saw a blue pickup truck leaving the business and heading toward Bessemer.

Deputies believe the Hueytown case is related to the one near Bessemer.

Anyone with information about either burglary is asked to call the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office at 205-325-1450 or Crimestoppers at 205-254-777.
