Today Jefferson County Commissioner Sandra Little Brown made history. Brown presided over the Jefferson County Commission as President Pro Tem, becoming the first African American woman to do so.
Commission President David Carrington is in New York meeting with creditors about supporting the county's plan to exit bankruptcy, so Little Brown presided over the meeting in his place.
Brown welcomed the moment. One year ago, Brown was diagnosed with breast cancer. Brown tells Fox6 News she did not know if she was going to live at that time.
Since then, the breast cancer has been in remission and Brown is leading a team of Jefferson County workers in the "JeffCo Fight Club" team to join in Saturday's Race for the Cure.
