A Colbert County inmate accused of sexually abusing a child remains in jail after investigators caught him in a scheme to escape.
Investigators learned that Jesse Tidwell planned to flood his cell then ask for a mop to clean it up. He planned to stab the jailor who responded to his request, take his keys, then take off in the jailor's car.
Officers searched Tidwell's cell and found a shank fashioned from an ink pen. They also found a letter in which Tidwell threatened suicide.
Tidwell faces three counts of promoting prison contraband, on top of the rape charges that initially put him in jail.
