BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

A long-time Birmingham city leader is now out of office.

Tuesday's meeting was the last for outgoing Council President Roderick Royal. He decided not to run for re-election.

Royal has been at city hall for 16 years, the first four as a council committee assistant and the last 12 as the councilor for District Nine.

Royal's replacement is Marcus Lundy. Lundy and the rest of the new council will be sworn in next Tuesday.
