A high school student and two dogs were struck and killed by a train in Harrison County on Tuesday evening.
According to Harrison County authorities, dispatchers received a call just after 6:30 p.m. that an eastbound Union Pacific freight train was involved in an accident with a girl who was standing on the tracks with two dogs. The incident occurred near the intersection of Roy Green Road and Highway 80 in Harrison County. The girl, identified as Kristina Lawrence, was killed.
Lawrence was a junior at Hallsville High School.
According to Union Pacific, the engineer did everything he could to warn the Lawrence, but she made no effort to get out of the way.
Video from the on-board engine cab of the train is under review by the Union Pacific investigator's office in Longview.
