The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office says they have officially charged two men in connection to a pair carjackings that happened on Thursday morning.
30-year-old Demarques King and 23-year-old Eric Washington Jr. are each charged with two counts of 1st degree receiving stolen property, one count of 1st degree robbery and one count of attempted murder. They are both being held in the Jefferson County Jail on a $180,000 bond.
Deputies say they were tipped off just before 12 p.m. on Thursday to the location of one of the carjacked vehicle thanks to a tracking service used by one of the vehicle's owners. The information showed the car was in the Wylam area near New Mulga Loop Road and Loop Road. Deputies responded to that location and found one of the hijacked cars, the black Chrysler 300, at a home in the 5200 block of Loop Road. The sheriff's office said one suspect was trying to take the wheels off the Chrysler when deputies showed up. Another suspect was inside a car nearby.
The first carjacking happened in the 5700 block of Valley Road just before 6 a.m. A woman told authorities that two black males in a beige vehicle fired shots at her and carjacked her black 2007 Chrysler 300. The second carjacking happened in the 1400 block of Minor Parkway around 7 a.m. A man reported that two black males in a light brown Nissan rear-ended him then fired shots at him. The suspects then took his 2005 white Chevrolet Impala. Deputies have not yet found a weapon, although both victims say the suspects fired shots at them. Neither victim was injured in the ordeal.
Deputies say a white Chevrolet Impala and the suspects' beige Nissan were also found at the same residence. The Nissan was reported stolen out of Forestdale in August, according to officials.
