HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Military service runs in the family of fallen firefighter Jantzen Frazier.

Dave Carney is Frazier's cousin, an Army veteran who had a direct hand in the Veterans' Memorial in Huntsville. Friday afternoon, Carney described his cousin as one of the finest young men in America.

"I can imagine that right now in Heaven, he's up there saying ‘God, I'm here to help.' That's the way Jantzen would be," said Carney.

Dr. Jerome Ward taught Frazier at Hartselle High School. Frazier graduated in 2003 before going into service. Dr. Ward shared his memories of their last meeting before Frazier went off to war.

"The fact he cared enough to come by and say 'I want to see you one more time and let you know I'm going to be gone a few days; pray for me.' That just tells you what kind of guy he is, that he would come by and say 'I appreciate what you did.' He was always thinking of other people first," said Dr. Ward.

Jantzen Frazier's visitation will be Tuesday at Peck Funeral Home from 5 to 9 p.m. His funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at First Methodist Church in Hartselle.
