Your next trip through airport security in Birmingham could be a lot faster if you're a frequent flyer.
The TSA is now offering the Pre-Check expedited screening program at the Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International airport.
The TSA Pre-Check allows frequent flyers who are in the program to have expedited screening benefits. Some of those benefits include lanes where flyers can leave on their shoes, light outerwear and belts, and leave their laptops and liquids in a carry-on bag.
"Our focus is to make the travel experience at BHM easy and convenient. We are excited to be working with TSA to offer passengers amenities at the checkpoint when traveling through BHM," said Toni Herrera-Bast, Birmingham Airport Authority spokesperson.
Although the passengers FOX6 spoke to like the ease of TSA Pre-Check, they do still think the more stringent security checkpoints are needed in some form, maybe with a little bit lighter requirements.
"When you're traveling as often as I am you don't want to add an hour, potentially an hour and a half, to your travel time," says Jett Pihakis who was raised in Birmingham but now lives in Washington D.C.
He flies a couple of times week.
"Now I can arrive, I'll allow 30 minutes early because you never know what may happen, but 30 minutes is plenty of time and I always have time to kill once I'm on the other side," Pihakis said.
Phillip White agrees that the convenience is nice. Also a frequent business traveler, he is qualified for the expedited check-in when he flies Delta.
"And it's a convenience for us. Because if someone flies quite often, we have already been checked. We've been checked ad nauseam," White said.
Not all airlines are on board with the program. You can find a full list of participating airlines and more information about the Transportation Security Administrations website at www.tsa.gov/tsa-precheck.
