BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

A 10-year-old Birmingham boy was thrown from an SUV and killed in a single-car accident early Saturday morning.

The Jefferson County Coroner's office says Rashad Cole was thrown from a 2005 GMC Envoy when it ran off the roadway in the 1600 block of Vanderbilt Road at 12:46 a.m. Saturday.

The Envoy rolled several times and flipped through the outer fence of Brothers Recycling, coming to rest inside.

Deputy Coroner Bill Yates says Cole was staying with some friends who were in the car along with their mom and another friend and their mother.

Three other children were taken to Children's of Alabama with non life-threatening injuries. The two women in the car were taken to UAB Hospital for treatment and all are expected to recover.

Birmingham Police spokesman Sgt. Johnny Williams says the accident investigation is ongoing.
