BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

Ronda Robinson investigates whether a power company should pay customers when an eletrical transformer blows and electronics are damaged.

Imagine a transformer blowing and suddenly the electronics in your home don't work. That's what happened to viewer Judy.

"A transformer near our house blew when a tree fell - not our tree. Alabama Power came and fixed the transformer, but when they turned the power back on, things all over my house started popping. So far, our stereo system is fried and a window AC unit in our den," she wrote.

According to Alabama Power's website, surge protectors will protect your items:

"Properly installed surge protectors help prevent damage to electronic equipment caused by momentary large voltage surges."

Alabama Power is not responsible for damage to your equipment.
