DeKalb County deputy dies from apparent heart attack at Talladega Super Speedway

TALLADEGA, AL (WBRC) -

The DeKalb County Sheriff's office is mourning the loss of one of their own after a deputy was found dead at the Talladega Super Speedway.

Deputy Allen L. Kay died from an apparent heart attack after working a midnight security shift for the Speedway. His body was found in his camper on Saturday afternoon.

The Talladega County coroner and Sheriff's Office say foul play is not suspected.

The sheriff's office said Kay had worked for eight years in the medical department of the jail, taking care of inmates.

"He was a man of integrity, a hard worker, and was well respected. He will be missed by the Sheriff's office co-workers, family and friends," Sheriff Jimmy Harris said in a statement on the sheriff's office website.
