Editorial: Walking away from a damaged vehicle

Posted: Updated:

The following is an editorial from FOX6 WBRC-TV General Manager Lou Kirchen, first aired on Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2013.

Have you ever walked out of a restaurant, doctor's office or store to find a new dent in your vehicle or maybe the paint from another car that's been transferred to your bumper…but no note, nothing from the driver who caused the damage? What kind of person knowingly causes damage and then drives away leaving the person with the damaged vehicle to deal with it? It's simple…someone with no integrity. Does that sound too tough?

The perpetrator may say a little dent is no big deal, or that they can't afford to file a claim on their insurance. Well, someone has to pay for it. Vehicle repairs of any kind are expensive. Insurance becomes more expensive for all of us when folks are careless and then don't take responsibility for property damage they have caused.

Have you notice how folks with new vehicles park them as far away as they can from other vehicles? I wonder why? What do you think?
