BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

A Birmingham police officer in a marked patrol car was involved in a wreck with a pickup truck on Thursday afternoon.

The officer's car and a Dodge Ram truck wrecked at Winnetka Way and Center Point Parkway in northeast Birmingham around 1:51 p.m., according to BPD spokesman Captain Henry Irby.

The police officer stopped at the Exxon gas station on Center Point Parkway to fill up with gas before responding to a call. The officer pulled out of the gas station to go south and hit a truck traveling north. The police car did have its emergency lights on at the time of the crash.

The driver of the truck was reportedly OK, but was taken to a local hospital to be checked out. The police officer was taken to UAB Hosptial. He did not have any visible injuries, Captain Irby said.
