BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

The Magic City Classic isn't all about football games, concerts and parties. This weekend, some volunteers were going green.

That was the goal of a service day project held Friday in Fairfield. It was hosted by the Toyota Green Initiative Coalition. As part of the program, the company gives away its energy saving Prius to 22 historically black colleges across the country.

There's also a community service component. That included planting a garden at the Fairfield Civic Center. Actress Tatyana Ali, known for her role in "The Fresh Prince of Bel Air," helped out.

"Our young people are tastemakers for the country and so whatever they say is cool is actually cool," Ali says. "And so we're trying to let them understand going green is actually really cool."

She says she's had a Toyota Prius since 2008 and been a part of the coalition for two years. At the civic center, volunteers installed new energy saving light bulbs. This is the third year Toyota has held its Green Initiative during Classic weekend.
