BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

The Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Department is investigating after they say a missing Hoover woman's body was found in a gravel/dirt pit on Tuesday.

Deputies responded to a call reporting a deceased person around 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday to the pit on private property in the 21,000 block of Dream Lake Road in McCalla. The pit is in a rural area near I-20/59.

Workers at the pit discovered the woman inside of her vehicle, a white, four-door 2000 Honda Accord.

Officers identified the woman as 31-year-old Amanda Ressler. The Sheriff's Office says Ressler's body was found about the same time her family reported her missing to the Hoover Police Department.

Ressler's family became concerned after they hadn't heard from her in over a day. They also said she didn't show up for several appointments she had on Tuesday.

Investigators say they don't know why Ressler was in the area where her body and her car were found. They say she didn't have any contacts in that area of Highway 11 or Dream Lake Road.

Authorities believe foul play is a possibility and are continuing the investigation into the events before Ressler's death. Her cause of death has not yet been determined.

Anyone with information about Ressler or who may have seen her car in the Dream Lake Road area is urged to call the Tuscaloosa County Homicide Unit at 205-464-8690, the Hoover Police Department at 205-444-7794, or Crime Stoppers at 205-752-STOP (7867).
