Birmingham police have identified the city's latest homicide victim, a man who wrecked his car after being shot in the back of the head.
South Precinct officers found Maurice Lee, 38, shot inside his car in the 900 block of 46th Street North in Birmingham around 9:45 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23.
Lee was alert enough to tell officers he had been on his way to buy a pound of marijuana when he was shot in the back of the head, according to Sgt. Johnny Williams. After getting shot, police say he crashed his car into a power pole.
Lee underwent surgery for his injury at UAB and survived for a week on life support. He was pronounced dead on Wednesday, Oct. 30 by hospital staff.
Investigators say the car Lee was driving was stolen from Huntsville in January.
So far, police have not made any arrests in the case. They are asking anyone with information to contact the police department at 205-254-1764 or Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777.
