JEFFERSON COUNTY, AL (WBRC) -

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office is investigating a fatal house fire.

Chief Deputy Randy Christian says that deputies and the Adger Fire Department responded to a house fire call around 5:45 a.m. Monday in the 9200 block of Pine Treen Circle.

Christian says the badly burned body was discovered once state fire marshals began their investigation of the fire. The body has not yet been identified and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

A man who says he was the man's cousin spoke to FOX6 News this afternoon.

"Anything happen, good or  bad, he's always there," Carlos Jackson said. "And you know, for us to get that call this morning...I mean, everybody's hurt."

At the time of the fire, neighbors told deputies they had heard the resident of the house calling for his dog about an hour before the fire was noticed. However, they did not know where he was.
