KSLA News 12 Editorial: Nov. 7th-Bullying

Posted: Updated:

Earlier this week KSLA News 12 Anchorman Pat Simon brought a disturbing problem to the attention of us all. Bullying.

Bullying has been in the news in recent years and has always been with us. But in today's world of Twitter and Facebook and instant social media communication, it has taken on a whole new role, particularly with our teenagers.

In Pat's report, he highlighted the tragic story of two area teenagers, 17-year-old Kaitlin Loux and 13-year-old T.Z. Blanc. Both teens killed themselves, their parents say, after they were bullied by other kids on social media. It was enough to push them over the edge.

This should be a wake up call for all of us, but especially parents and teachers to watch for disturbing signs. Perhaps, monitor your child's social media or at least sit down and have discussions with them to make sure they are not being bullied or bullying someone else.

We've put a number of resources for you on our web site, ksla.com. Just go to our home page and look for bullying in the Links in the News section.

I'm James Smith.
