Gov. Robert Bentley has awarded more than $940,000 dollars in Community Development Block Grants to three south central towns in Alabama.
The grant was awarded to make improvements in public health and safety available to towns of the Crenshaw County and Lowndes County, according to a news release from the governor's office.
"Community Development Block Grants to provide essential resources that help Alabama counties, cities and towns address urgent public needs," Bentley said.
Bentley awarded $350,000 grant to Luverne of Crenshaw County to upgrade water lines and streets, $250,000 to Dozier for water improvements and $342,210 to Hayneville to improve sewer services.
Funds from the grant were administered by the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs and were made available to the state by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
