Nearly one dozen marching bands and 80 other units are expected to take part in Hattiesburg's 3rd annual Veterans Day Parade Monday. It's sponsored by the Armed Forces Top Enlisted Association.
It will begin at 9 a.m. at Hardy Street Baptist Church and will make its way east to Veterans Memorial Park.
At 10 a.m., an annual Veterans Day program will begin.
"This is the third year and the parade has gotten bigger every year," said Ted Tibbett, chairman of the Hattiesburg Veterans Committee. "The benefit of the parade, besides the great enjoyment, is that it brings a lot of people down to the program downtown for Veterans Day and people learn it's more than a holiday and the post office is closed," he said.
On Sunday at 10 a.m., a group of Southern Miss Air Force ROTC cadets will begin a 24-hour vigil at the park. And at 7 p.m. Sunday, those cadets will read aloud all 173 names of fallen servicemen that are listed on the veterans memorial.
