Testimony continued Wednesday in the Zakkawanda Moss murder trial as a witness with first-hand knowledge of the drug business involving one of the victims took the stand.
Zakkawanda Moss faces six counts of first-degree murder. Moss and another man stand accused of killing five people and an unborn child in Lincoln and Madison counties last year.
Tennessee allows cameras in the courtroom, unlike most in Alabama. But there was one witness the judge did not want to be filmed.
That witness is a former drug partner of Crutcher. He testified that Moss, known as "Face" on the street, came into the drug business that Crutcher and Henry Burrell already had going. He testified that all three men were dealing crack, cocaine, pills - whatever made money, and had several guns, even two AK-47s he would keep at two stash houses.
Prosecutors said Moss and Burrell then turned on Crutcher, wanting to rob him and the two stash houses, which happened to be the homes of two different girlfriends of Crutcher.
Friends of the victims also took the stand Wednesday.
Asia Tolls took the stand, saying once she got to the house on Huntsville Highway, she couldn't get any of the doors open except for a garage door to pull the three-year-old out, and that's when she saw blood all over. Investigators found two women and the one-year-old dead in that house.
Tolls connected Moss, who is connected with six counts of murder, and Burrell to being drug buddies of Crutcher.
Crutcher's mother, Roda, also took the stand Wednesday. She saw him just hours before he was killed. She said he came by her house with another victim, Amber McCaulley, and he got a phone call from Burrell to come pick him and Moss up after a robbery.
Call it mother's intuition: Roda told her son not to go, and that was the last time she saw her son alive. But that phone call is crucial because it puts Moss and the victims in the same location.
The judge ordered the jury to strike Roda's description of what she heard that night:
"I was talking to him about robbing people, and he said 'Momma, I'm not doing that, it's Henry and Face," Roda said.
The trial of the other man charged in this case, Henry Burrell, is set to start in February.
