When you turn on your television on Thanksgiving morning to watch the 87th annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, two of Tallassee's finest will be smiling back at you!
Sophomores Bailey Mann and Michael Fulmer were recently chosen to be members of the Macy's Great American Band. Bailey plays the trombone and Michael plays the tenor saxophone in the Pride of Tallassee Marching Band.
As participants in Macy's Great American Band, Mann and Fulmer will be joined by 183 other students from all 50 states to lead the parade down the streets of New York City, past a crowd of nearly 3 million, and millions more watching on TV.
The musicians will be under the direction of Auburn University's Dr. Richard Good and Assistant Director, Barry Houser, of the University of Illinois.
"We are extremely honored to have this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to participate in such an elite band," Fulmer said in a statement provided by the school system. "We will make Tallassee proud."
The students will travel to NYC the Saturday before Thanksgiving to begin practice
The parade, which is broadcast on WSFA 12 and other NBC affiliates around the nation, helps kick off the Christmas season. On-air event coverage starts at 8:00 a.m. Central, but for Mann and Fulmer it will be considerably earlier. The two will be up and practicing by 2:30 a.m.
