The following is an editorial from FOX6 WBRC-TV General Manager Lou Kirchen, first aired on Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2013:

In 1998, Gifts for Kids was born, and then in 2007 FOX6 joined forces with the Salvation Army and their Angel Tree program, creating a partnership that, over the years, has provided Christmas gifts for tens of thousands of children throughout North Central Alabama. This year, the Angel Tree adoption count started with 7,368 children. To date, we have 4,680 angels still waiting to be adopted.

The FOX6 Gifts for Kids Salvation Army Angel Tree program is a labor of love for all of those involved, sponsors and volunteers alike. Some area families have made it part of their Christmas tradition to select angels and provide gifts for them.

When you are shopping this holiday season, please remember those children who depend upon our generosity to have a gift under the tree with their name on it. All of us at FOX6 and the Salvation Army thank you for your kindness.
