NASHVILLE,TN (WBRC) - Nashville Police are reporting that 44 year old Jerald Wayne Mills, a
Nashville songwriter and performer originally from Arab Alabama was shot early this morning
at a Nashville bar.
Nashville Police were called out to the Pit and Barrel bar at 515 2nd Avenue around 5:00 a.m. Saturday morning. Witnesses inside the bar say Mills and the bar owner 44 year old Chris Ferrell got into an altercation over Mills smoking in a non smoking area of the bar.
Ferrell told police he shot Mills in self defense. Mills was tranported to Vanderbilt Medical Center where he is listed as critical.
According to the Waynes Mills Band website, Mills once played baseball at Wallace State
Jr College and played football for the University of Alabama where he earned a degree in Education.
Later Mills formed the Wayne Mills Band playing all over the South East. American Idol winner Taylor Hicks, Jamey Johnson and Blake Shelton all opened for Mills when they first started out. Mills was scheduled to play tonight at Grandaddy's Lounge in Ramer Alabama.
Police are continuing to investigate this incident
