TURKEY TALKLINE - Today's kitchen and American family are evolving which has led to a shift in cooking responsibilities overall as well as at Thanksgiving. A new Butterball survey found that one in four men say they help out more in the kitchen than they did a few years ago, and nearly half of men play a significant role in either preparing or cooking the turkey for the Thanksgiving meal. Butterball is embracing this shift in cooking responsibilities and launched a nationwide search to find Butterball's first male Turkey Talk-Line spokesman. The new spokesman joined the Butterball Turkey Talk-Line in mid-November to share his advice with Thanksgiving cooks. With Thanksgiving cooking responsibilities changing, one thing remains steady - the Turkey Talk-Line continues to be a trusted resource for those preparing the holiday meal. And Butterball has tips for the new Thanksgiving table that will help any cook prepare for the big day, ensuring the Thanksgiving meal is a success. The original Turkey Talk-Line staff of six home economists fielded questions from 11,000 turkey-troubled Americans during its first season in November 1981. Each November and December, professionally trained turkey experts assist more than 1 million cooks through the Turkey Talk-Line, Butterball.com, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Live Chats and emails in the United States and Canada. With more than 50 staff members, the Turkey Talk-Line has the resources to answer questions from either English- or Spanish-speaking callers, as well as respond to questions via email. For help, call 1-800-BUTTERBALL.

UA ZOMBIES
- Dr. Matt Payne and Adam Schwartz, University of Alabama telecommunication and film professors, are each teaching a UA course this semester on zombies, cashing in on the monsters' current popularity to provide students with culturally relevant instruction while teaching them the skills they need to succeed after college. Payne, an assistant professor in telecommunication and film, is teaching TCF 444: Zombies in Culture.  Schwartz, also an assistant professor of telecommunication and film, teaches TCF 451: Advanced Television Production, in which students produce a television pilot episode. He said the class provides students an experience that closely mirrors real-world production work. Students have a chance to use their audio/visual skills but also learn about things like special-effects makeup and social media campaigns for promotion. Payne and Schwartz wrote a script for the production class over the summer, focusing on creating a "zom-com" or zombie comedy. The pilot, titled "Zom-Com," tells the story of a group of zombie chasers (think storm chasers, but with zombies) who are working with various corporations to tag and study zombies. Students in the production class will also participate in portions of Payne's zombie history class. Payne said the zombie is much more than just a monster, and he hopes he can help students appreciate that.
