State troopers are continuing to investigate an early Thursday morning wreck that claimed the lives of two men.
22-year-old Daniel Hose of Athens was behind the wheel of the 2007 Ford Mustang. His passenger, 23-year-old Jonathen Jolley of Harvest, also died in the wreck.
The wreck happened on Jeff Road between Burwell Road and Kelly Springs Road just before 3 a.m. Firefighters on the scene said it looked like the car was going over 100 miles per hour when it crashed into a tree.
The crash was so violent, the tree split in half, and the two men were thrown from the car. Firefighters discovered the car's engine in the trunk, and the steering wheel was found about 100 yards from the crash site.
State troopers reported that the two men were not wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.
Investigators said there are still many details to sort out. Toxicologies will be performed on the two victims as authorities try to determine whether alcohol or drugs were a factor in the wreck.
