Our editorial last week focusing on Governor Bentley's continued refusal of expanding Medicaid in Alabama and my desire for him to reconsider and expand elicited the following feedback via emails received and comments on wsfa.com and our WSFA 12 News station Facebook page…here is just a sampling:
Melanie responded with, "There will not be enough doctors in Alabama, or in the U.S., to cover these expansions in Medicaid, with many doctors dropping out of Medicaid and/or retiring due to all the riffs over medical care. The Governor is correct - stand firm, and ignore Liberal rhetoric."
Brandi provided the following, "I really think the Governor should reconsider his decision as well. If I understood correctly, the government is supposed to fund the first 3 years 100% and the years after 90%. How can you say NO to that? How can you deny these 300,000 people insurance? What will they do if because of their income- they won't qualify for subsidies to help pay for private insurance or get Medicaid? Why would you hurt these people this way because of the way you feel? Forget Republican or Democrat. Do what is right."
writes, "I respectfully disagree with
your editorial tonight on asking our Governor to reconsider his position on
expanding Medicaid. $375M in federal
dollars is not really an income as we will ALL pay for it. From whom's pockets do you think federal
dollars will come? Creating over 30,000
jobs by expanding Medicaid represents additional expense to every individual in
the state that pays taxes. Would we not
be increasing the number of individuals expecting something for nothing; there
IS no free lunch. Our Governor is
obviously smarter than you."
Lastly Wanda adds:"Thank you so very much for speaking on behalf of myself and the thousands of citizens who share your remarks in support of the Medicaid Expansion. I am praying that Governor Bentley will have a change of mind and heart, and the courage to stand for what is right for the people of Alabama."
As always, we encourage and appreciate your feedback.
