The Callaway family became part of the Covenant Children's family when their daughter Lindsey was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor in 1998. In January 2001, Lindsey lost her battle with cancer at the age of 16. During Lindsey's stay, the staff of Covenant Children's grew close to the Callaway family recognizing the significant impact Lindsey had on everyone.
Since then, the Callaway family has held a Lindsey Callaway Memorial Toy Drive annually, raising more than $250,000 in cash donations, toys, learning devices, games, televisions and clothing for the children hospitalized at Covenant Children's. Each December, the Callaway family and their friends return to Covenant Children's to deliver toys and other donations.
Jessie, Lindsey's sister, made it a personal goal to become a pediatric nurse after experiencing firsthand what a difference they make in the world. In the fall of 2011, this dream became a reality and Jessie joined the staff at Covenant Children's. Jessie was truly moved by the caring and compassionate staff, which provided a great example of the compassionate care that makes up the heart of Covenant Children's.
