City crews cleaned up an estimated 110 gallons of sewage on Monday that spilled at the intersection of 43rd and Wessels streets.
The spill resulted from a break in the "gravity sewer main ex-filtrated into the city storm system," according to a city news release. It was classified as a minor spill under Georgia Environmental Protection Division guidelines.
Water and Sewer crews were notified about the spill at 3 p.m. it was fixed at 3:55 p.m. The break in the gravity sewer main was repaired and the sewer system was cleaned and evaluated.
The storm drainage system was mitigated to minimize contamination of State Waters. Notices about the spill were posted at North Casey Canal. Those agencies that are required to be notified under the EPD rules were alerted about the spill.
