Henrico man says contractor hasn't kept promises for damages to driveway

HENRICO, VA (WWBT) -

A Henrico man says a company did not fulfill its promise after workers damaged a water line.

Now, he's asking 12 On Your Side for help.

It happened on private property and Clarence Williams says he hasn't heard from the company in weeks.  He did pay for the repairs out of pocket and has been reimbursed for that cost, but he says other promises have not been fulfilled.

It all began back in August when Williams just wanted to help his daughter.  The once three foot hole has now caused four months of problems for Williams and his daughter.

It happened when workers with S&N Communications were laying fiber optic cables for Verizon.  Somehow they hit a water line to the home on Wildtree Drive in Glen Allen.

"There was water everywhere and there was two holes one on each side of the driveway," says Williams.

Williams says the line was immediately fixed, but not the hole.  Nine days after the incident, he looked for a paver on his own time.  The cost: $1,5000 paid out of Williams' own pocket.

S&N did reimburse him.  But in this letter the contractor also promised to cover future repair costs to the driveway and lawn and keep the lines of communication open.

But Williams says he hasn't been able to get a hold of anyone for the past month.

"They have reneged on a signed statement," he said.  "I am not a citizen advocate, but I am a father that loves his daughter and will go to the legal limit."

He says more work needs to be done, particularly with his daughter's lawn which he believes may need more work in the spring.

Henrico Public Works administrators say they can't help this homeowner because it happened on private property.  The departments says it receives several complaints throughout the year about contractors hitting sewer lines and water lines on private property.  Its advice: document ever thing and take pictures.

S&N sent me a statement which reads:  "S&N Communications is committed to keeping residents satisfied and regrets that Mr. Williams in unhappy.  While S&N believes it has done everything necessary to repair the damage caused to his daughter's property, S&Nwill work closely with Mr. Williams to determine if S&N can comply with Mr. Williams remaining repair requests."

As of this article being posted, Mr. Williams since he still hasn't heard from the contractor.
