The Montgomery Police Department is welcoming its newest member to the force, "Charter" the K-9.
Charter is just 4-months-old but will be a valuable asset to MPD's narcotics division. It will take about a year before she's certified as an official K-9 officer.
"It takes about a little bit over a year for the dog to get fully certified and then she's going to be tested," explained Police Chief Kevin Murphy. "She'll have to go through a series of tests in order to be certified because again if she detects any drugs. Her certification ability has to hold up in court. So, there's really a science to this," Murphy added.
Charter's training will also include bonding with her partner.
The pup gets her name from Charter Cable, the company that donated her to MPD.
