The Blount County District Attorney confirms that a teacher from Susan Moore High School is on paid leave while under investigation.
The unnamed, female teacher is suspected of sending nude pictures to a student. District Attorney Pamela Casey claims the superintendent and a principal were aware of the situation for a week before alerting authorities.
Casey says her office was notified about the teacher's alleged misconduct Monday.
"There is a current investigation into a teacher's actions with a student. Those being electronic communication with that student," Casey said.
She says there's also a seperate investigation into the possible delay in reporting the alleged misconduct.
"The law requires an immediate report. Not a day later, not two days later, not five days later, not a month later. They are required if there's any suspicion," Casey said.
She has asked the ABI to look into the school's actions.
Meanwhile, residents are left to wonder if there's truth to the accusations circulating about the teacher.
No charges have been filed. FOX6 News made several calls to the Blount County School Board for comment but we couldn't reach anyone.
