Bulloch County's current and previous clerks of court entered plea agreements to settle charges against them.
Clerk of court Teresa Tucker pled guilty to two counts of violation of oath of office. She was sentenced to five years probation for each. In addition, she agreed to pay a $1,000 fine and $6,000 in restitution.
Former clerk Sherri Akins pled guilty to malfeasance in office. She agreed to 12 months of probation and $6,000 restitution.
The two were indicted earlier this year on those charges as well as others, including theft. Three other office employees were indicted on lesser charges and have already entered pleas.
Prosecutors said Tucker and Akins, during their times in charge, maintained a petty cash fund from which they and their staff members borrowed money and cashed personal checks.
Tucker also agreed to resign effective Dec. 31. Bulloch County attorney Jeff Akins told WTOC the county would hold a special election in conjunction with state primaries next year.
That exact date is still in question as the State of Georgia resolves a primary election date with the U.S. Justice Deptarment.
