A court appearance is set for a former Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's deputy accused of driving under the influence before a crash in November.
Patrick Bailey is set to appear in court Jan. 29. Tuscaloosa County District Attorney Lyn Head says she's recused her office from the case.
A special prosecutor from the Bessemer division of the Jefferson County District Attorney's Office will handle the case.
Bailey, who resigned as a deputy Dec. 6, was placed on administrative leave following his arrest on a DUI charge.
A state trooper's report showed Bailey was going the wrong way on an I-59 exit ramp when he crashed into a semi-truck on Nov. 15.
The report says Bailey was in a personal vehicle when he tried to cross I-59 traveling in the wrong direction and crashed into an 18-wheeler. The driver of the 18-wheeler was treated and released from DCH following the crash.
Bailey was involved in at least three other accidents since 2006, according to state troopers' reports, but none of the crashes led to any charges.
Bailey had been with the sheriff's department for just under two years at the time of the wreck.
