Soon, a pad and pen will no longer be needed to take your order when dining out, some restaurants like Applebee's will be investing in Presto tablets. It's a new gadget that allows customers order, pay and go without having to flag down a waiter.
"I think I would like it as far as being able to order," Applebee's customer Debra Schramn said. "As long as it doesn't interfere with cutting back the servers or interfering with their job."
According to an Applebee's representative they won't. The tablets will serve only as an assistant, giving waiters a chance to focus on other areas of service and have customers pay on their own schedule. For customer Imogene Johnson, she feels not everyone is tech savvy and some rather have access to a waiter.
"Because she's a person, not a tablet....(you don't mind waiting?) no, I don't mind waiting," Johnson said.
But the Presto tablets offer more than just a speedy checkout, it's also loaded with games and eventually it will have the ability to video stream, play music, offer gift card purchases and social media interaction . Applebee's President Mike Archer says their "goal was to create a way for guests to control when and how they pay their check" but learned they can deliver more with entertainment.
Schramn continues, "I'd be interested in trying it, see how it goes."
Expect to see the 100-thousand Prestos hit tables by the end of the year.
