The former minister accused in his wife's murder returned to Jefferson County shortly after 3 p.m. Wednesday.
Richard Shahan was transported from Tennessee to the Jefferson County Jail after he waived extradition during a hearing on Tuesday in Nashville.
Shahan was arrested by federal agents at the Nashville airport on New Year's Day. He was headed to Germany, according to Homewood Police Chief Jim Roberson. Shahan's attorneys said their client was going out of the country for mission work.
Homewood police said they have established a motive in his wife's death, but they aren't saying what it was. They haven't said how she was killed, either. Karen Louise Shahan's was found on July 23 at their home on Hugh Circle.
Authorities said that Shahan told investigators that he was in Bowling Green, KY when his wife's body was found.
Shahan was questioned by Homewood Police in August, but released.
Shahan's attorneys say they plan to file a motion for a bond hearing sometime this week.
