A local dentist office is offering free dental care on Saturday as part of a nationwide program called "Dentistry From the Heart."
"It's a full day of free dentistry," says Sarah McKinney with A Brighter Smile Dental Care. "We'll be doing fillings, extractions and cleanings."
It's one of more than 150 treatment events to be held this year at dental clinics across the U.S. and Canada.
Patients must be 16 or older and will have their choice of one procedure, which could be a filling, an extraction or a cleaning.
Those who show up won't have to provide proof of insurance, but patients will have to give a brief medical history and get a blood pressure check before any procedures can be done.
A Brighter Smile Dental Care is located at 385 Bert Kouns Industrial Loop, Suite 700 in Shreveport. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 11. Treatments will take place between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m.
By 11 p.m. Friday night, a handful of people had already shown up to secure a spot in line for much-needed dental care.
According to their website, Dentistry From The Heart (DFTH) is a worldwide nonprofit organization dedicated to providing free dental care to those in need. Every year, thousands of individual dentists, hygienists, volunteers and hundreds practices across the world donate their time and resources to host their own DFTH events.
