New information has come to light in the case of the Homewood pastor accused of his wife's murder.
Fox6 News has obtained a copy of the warrant against Richard Shahan. In the warrant, Shahan is accused of "stabbing and cutting the victim with an unknown object." The warrant also claims Karen Louise Shahan was killed "on or about" July 22. Karen Shahan's body was discovered on July 23, when Richard Shahan claims he was visiting his son in Kentucky.
Richard Shahan was arrested while trying to board a plane to Germany in Nashville. Homewood police believe he was attempting to flee to Russia.
Shahan waived his extradition right in Tennessee and was brought back to Jefferson County earlier this week. He made his first court appearance in Jefferson County on Thursday.
Shahan's attorneys said last week they will ask for a bond hearing to release their client pending the trial.
"The death of his wife was overwhelming for him and his family. He has
maintained from the beginning he has no information on what occurred," Shahan's attorney John Lentine said.
As of Friday afternoon, a preliminary hearing had not been set and a motion for a bond hearing had not been filed.
