The flu has claimed at least 12 lives this season in Middle Tennessee, including a deacon at a Montgomery County church.
Ken Harris, of Clarksville, passed away at Gateway Medical Center last week from complications from the flu.
A graduate of Clarksville High School and Austin Peay State University, Harris is survived by a wife of 23 years and three children.
The Rev. Steve Kirby said Harris served as a deacon at Hilldale Church of Christ for the past three years.
And as the owner of Harris Woodworks, Harris was known for using his skills to help build for the church.
Kirby said, with his efforts, Harris came to define the word "deacon."
"He took it to heart. The word deacon means servant. And it's a translated word into our Bibles, but it was obvious he was a servant and was active in his service to others," Kirby said.
Funeral services for Harris were held at the Neal-Tarpley-Parchman Funeral Home in Clarksville.
