SHELBY, NC (FOX Carolina) -

Cleveland County deputies said an Amber Alert issued in Massachusetts led to the discovery of a girl and her mother in western North Carolina on Saturday.

Deputies said they received information from the Massachusetts State Police that the girl could be at a home on Yarn Mill Road.

According to the sheriff's office, investigators went to the house and were let inside, discovering the missing girl and her mom, 50-year-old Leeanna Wilson, of Fitchburg, MA.

According WSHM-TV, Wilson was believed to be headed back to South Carolina when the alert was issued. Officials reported that she did not have custody of her daughter, 6-year-old Alize Whipple.

Deputies said they arrested Wilson on a Massachusetts' warrant for parental kidnapping of a minor and the girl was placed in protective custody.

Wilson is being held at the Cleveland County jail on a fugitive from justice warrant awaiting extradition back to Massachusetts, deputies said.
